Best BBQ Sauce Recipe? No Such Thing


Picking the best recipe for barbecue sauce is trying to decide which of your children you love most. It is simply not so simple.


If you are looking for the best barbecue sauce, you can find it everywhere you go. In other words, if you go to Memphis and ask what is the best BBQ sauce, most people will tell you Memphis sauce. It's like Clint Black said the song, "Wherever you go you're there." Without going into all the history and context, we'll just say that the BBQ sauce varies according to regions of the country. If everything is accepted in the world of barbecue is that barbecue sauce is different depending on where you go.


So, you have to decide what is the best recipe. Because ... No one else knows. Most people have their own choices of what is the best barbecue sauce, but nobody can accept. There are too many of them on the spot to select. Even in regions of the sub-regions have their own variations of the same style (what a mouthful).

Memphis-style barbecue sauce


4 Tbs butter


1 / 4 C chopped onion


1 c Tomato Sauce


1 c vinegar


1 / 4 C of Worcestershire sauce


1 tablespoon brown sugar


1 C. Tea salt


1 / 2 C. Tea black pepper


1 / 8 C. Tea cayenne pepper


Dash Tabasco sauce


Sauté onions in butter, then add the remaining ingredients. Heat the mixture until it thickens (15 to 20 minutes).


At least one of the ingredients can be changed, added or deleted. A barbecue sauce can be as simple as tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce, or vinegar and pepper flakes. But you can also make it as complex as you want, too. You can even use the sauce as an ingredient.


Announcement in the recipe above, the tomato sauce and vinegar are of equal amounts. These are the two main ingredients that will determine a basic style. As the report of these ingredients change, it is also the place where it is made.


Kansas City sauce is thick and sticky and sweet. To change the recipe above to a style of KC, try to reduce the vinegar to 1 / 4 cup Worcestershire and replace the dark with molasses. Add a few select seasonings such as paprika, chili powder, and Spice (perhaps a touch of cinnamon).


To go the other way from Memphis, to change the tomato sauce 1 / 2 cup ketchup and add a few garlic cloves and 1 cup of water. Increase the sugar to 1 / 2 cup. The result will be a thin barbecue sauce similar to that used in North Carolina. A sauce Texas would reduce the vinegar to 1 / 2 cup and add 1 1 / 2 cup water. Add more celery, garlic, paprika, and (of course) chili powder.


This May seem a lot of work, but it is also a lot of fun, too. It really is, though, the best way for you to answer this question, "what is the best recipe for barbecue sauce?". And you do not have to start with this recipe, whatsoever. There are many, many, many of them in cookbooks and online. Find one that is close to what you want (thick, thin, soft, spices, etc..) Get another drink, and go directly to the city.


It May not be the case as the best, but it is a way you can find your favorite. And by the way, you'll know when you find it.
